grandfather, consuming relatively much memory
by hurrikane - Aug 5th 2005 09:19:09
After some months using mailman I switched to Mailgust, which does not
consume that much memory and excels with functions like build-in search,
forum-like archive and some more.
You can view a fresh installation here.

GNU Mailman
by Thomas M. - May 11th 2005 06:45:57
Majordomo now seems clumsy and difficult to manage. GNU Mailman is a nice
alternative. It is popular, fast, easy to use and most importantly it's
focused on the end user. Mailman automatically provides a customizable home
page for each mailing list. Users can subscribe and unsubscribe themselves
as well as changing list preferences. For admins it offers a web based
frontend that makes managing any number of lists very easy. Mailman can
archive all list traffic and provide a Web frontend to browsing and
searching messages. I am really looking forward to version 3. Tom

Certainly fairly consistent messages about the product: no dissenters out
there before I give it a try? It all looks suspisciously positive

Does the email discussion lists have the ability to show it's discussion
on a web page? and can there be a login required, or do we have to build a
login ourselves?
We have a RSS authority site and want to either bring our discussion out
in the open or have it behind a required login, we have not decided yet.
We may be a little behind the scenes on our web capibilities but we are
trying.

Archive stats
by fester - Aug 28th 2002 16:45:24
This is a great piece of software. My only wish is for a way to generate
stats from the archives (Top subjects, top posters, etc.) If I had the
programming skills I would write it myself :)

I have written such program, see MailListStat here on
freshmeat. It's easily configurable (in new version - which will be
available in few days) to work with mailman and other mailing list
managers. It supports many languages, text or HTML output, graphs and
more...

Mailman
by naChoZ - Aug 4th 1999 00:33:28
Certainly not enough praise listed here for Mailman. This is definitely
the coolest list manager of all, bar none. The configuration of it is a
little scarey to a novice, but if you follow the directions and make sure
you ./configure using the appropriate --with-mail-gid and
--with-cgi-gid values, you'll be sailin in no time. I've been
running it on my site
for months now. After trying at least half a dozen other list managers, I
stopped looking with Mailman.

Specifically is there a XP version or a Vista version? If not are they on
the books or not?

I have a few sites running on Windows boxes and want to know what programs
are available if I move them to another system.
One of our bigger projects is at http://www.adison.edu
Any help is welcome...

The `other' Mailman

We know about this product, but it's not a mailing list manager,
so we're not worried about it.

Endymion Corp. is selling a product called Mailman. I would consider
renaming your project.
