About:
giis (gET iT i sAY) is a file recovery tool for Ext2/Ext3 filesystems. Once installed, current files and newly created files can be recovered. It allows users to recover all deleted files, recover files owned by a specific user, dump data from old file locations, and recover files of a specific type, such as text or PNG. A forensic analyzer is also provided to assist users during recovery.

It will recover and restore deleted files.
It also recovers dropped tables from databases like mysql.
Limitation :
It won't parse directory contents , if it's size greater than block_size. This will be rectified in giis 4.4. :)

This project advertises a GPL license, but if you get the latest release, the COPYING file reveals a license which is definitely non free.

This is clearly misleading!

I asked Freshmeat admins to set the license to "Proprietary".

giis-dump option is available.giis dump allows users to just dump content from files older location.Thus gives greater flexibility while recovering files.Its also provides option to recover files based on it's type.say mp3 or doc or txt.
