Elgg is a community building platform written in
PHP for Apache and MySQL. It gives you the tools
to create active and vibrant learning communities,
featuring Weblogging, podcasting, social
networking, file storage, tag searching,
customised user themes, gettext multi-language
support, and more. Users can control exactly who
has access to each bit of their profile, each blog
post, file, etc., and then search using tags to
find other resources and people related to the
same topic. Although originally designed for
education, it has a broad range of uses in a
variety of different settings.
